Happy National Unfriend Day!

(PCM) What began as a joke started by late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, National Unfriend Day is celebrated on November 17th and is a day to spend a few moments trimming down your Facebook friends list, especially those individuals that bring negativity to your page.

Kimmel jokingly said that a few examples of those who should be “unfriended” include people who over-share, ask stupid questions, and of course the lovely individuals that love to spoil the endings to your favorite TV shows.

Each and every one of us has at least one “friend” that pops up on our Facebook news feed that is constantly sharing online game invites, millions of selfies, or soapbox posts featuring social and political commentary. Today, is the day to finally weed through your “friends” list and ultimately click that dreaded word “unfriend”.  Trust us, it can actually be quite empowering!

There is even a Facebook page dedicated to National Unfriend Day which you can ‘Like’. It suggests criteria that can be used in deciding who to unfriend. These people include those who are constantly asking you to lend them money you’ll never see again, inviting you to ‘like’ whatever page they’re obsessed with this week, or complaining about every little thing that happens to them. So what are you waiting for? Celebrate Unfriend Day by taking advantage of this judgement-free opportunity to ditch the total strangers and on your ‘friend’ list!
