When it was first exhibited it was considred scandelous and immoral. One of the advantages of Primitivism and proto-cubism is that today this is pretty safe for work (SFW). Pablo preferred calling it ‘The Brothel of Avignon’ because the models were, in fact, prostitutes in a brothel.
