Jane Fonda As Barbarella

spaceBarbarella was a 1968 French-Italian science fiction film based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French Barbarella comics. The film stars Jane Fonda in the title role and was directed by Roger Vadim, who was Fonda’s husband at the time. The look Vadim gave the character for the film was very much like his previous wife (and sex symbol) Bridget Bardot.
The cult classic was not popular at its release, but received greater attention afterward with a 1977 re-release (anything star related was given a green-light after the success of Star Wars).
fonda1The film solidified Jane Fonda as a sex symbol of the ‘sex kitten’ variety.
fonda2For a while, after her marriage to Ted Turner (of CNN/TBS fame) the film very hard to find.
